It’s the most wonderful time of the year for students…Winter Break! While it’s awesome to sit back and relax for a while, this is also the perfect time to tackle that “To Do” list that’s been on your mind for months. Since it can be difficult to do all the extra “stuff” when you’re juggling constant schoolwork, take advantage of your extra down time and get ahead. Here are our suggestions for things to do over Winter Break.
Apply To Scholarships
As you know, college isn’t cheap. But luckily there are a TON of scholarships out there. You also don’t have to be a straight A student to get awarded college money. So do some research online and apply over break because scholarship application deadlines are quickly approaching. If you need help finding scholarships, be sure to reach out to your counseling office.
Offer a Hand
Whether you have a community service requirement at school or not, it is important to volunteer. Not only does it look awesome on college applications and resumes, but it will also make you feel good to give back to your community. Volunteer opportunities are everywhere in your community, especially around the holidays. So reach out and give back with all of this extra time off!
Why not earn some extra cash over your break? People are always looking for extra help around the holidays so this is a great way to spend your free time. Search around at local businesses, ask your family, neighbors, and others. You could even start your own business and continue to earn money all year round!
Landing an internship can have a hugely positive affect on your future. Not only is there a chance the company will hire you in the future, but an internship also looks great on college applications and resumes. Finding the right opportunity requires time and research so this is a perfect time to do so. This way, you’ll be ahead of the game and ready to gain experience in a field you are interested in.
This is a great time to begin your test prep! Since you won’t be overwhelmed with schoolwork and extracurricular activities over break, you should use this extra down time to prepare for the SAT/ACT. Try it for 5 days for only $5 here.
Sure, we want you to take advantage of this time and stay focused, but we also want you to return to school refreshed. So be sure to enjoy your time off! In between getting things done, get some extra ZZZ’s and have a great time catching up with your family.
Happy Holidays from all of us at PrepMe!
