Why do they make us take the SAT? it seems pointless because this test isn't really a measure of intelligence it just shows a computerizes score. is anyone else here annoyed that this score is determining part of our future?

The SAT is called a standardized test for a reason. It's not there to be a measure of any student's actual intelligence or how well a student can work. It's there to be a standard basis from which college's can evaluate a student's potential success in college. The SAT is meant to measure a student's general aptitude in the three areas and compare it to a standard, the general population's score. This doesn't mean that schools are comparing the intelligence of students, it's simply another method of evaluating a student in a way that is standardized across the entire population.
GPAs and other metrics of student success vary greatly by high school and background, but the SAT is the same for everyone. For this reason, it's a valuable tool for colleges evaluating potential students.

That the SAT is kind of stupid and seems fruitless at times, but it definitely is a valuable tool for colleges. It's important to have that "standard" aspect because high schools can vary so much, a GPA of 3.0 can be harder to get than a 4.0 depending on the school. So there has to be some basis to compare all students on and i think that' were the SAT comes in.
