Study Abroad
I want to do a year of study abroad in college, but the college I plan to attend doesn't have any programs in the location that I want to stud abroad. Could I still study abroad there?

Yes, you could still study abroad there. Most schools only offer programs in a limited number of places, but will approve of other study abroad programs. However if you find a program through a different school or organization, you should check to see whether it meets requirements set up by your school before enlisting. Once you decide on a program it’s best to start preparing ahead of time. Most schools will have you send in your application to study abroad a year in advance. It’s also a good idea to go ahead and apply for any study abroad scholarships or financial aid when you apply. This way funding your year abroad won’t take you by surprise.
Before you leave, it will be important to check out any rules and regulations that would pertain to you in the country you plan to be abroad in. For example, checking out whether your allergy medication is a controlled substance is probably a good idea to do ahead of time. It’ll be important that you have all your official documents, including visas, passports and health documents, in order. You should make copies of your travel documents in case anything happens. In addition to this, you should also make sure that all academic matters are resolved and that you won’t be missing any credit by going abroad. It would be prudent to meet with your academic advisor to take care of potential issues and to be aware of any academic deadlines when you come back. Finally, you should exchange enough currency that you’ll have enough to spend until you get settled in.
