whats the difference between a pyschologist and a psychiatrist? also, is a therapist the same thing as a psychologist?

A psychiatrist is a physician (goes to medical school, passes his/her boards, and has an MD) and prescribes medications. A psychologist may be able to have some limited prescription powers but is usually more in private offices as opposed to hospitals. Psychologists usually have master's degrees or PhDs.
