I love to play sports especially basketball, but I don't think I'd ever make it on a college level team. If I go to a big school where everyone on the sports teams are potential pros, will I still be able to play competitive sports and how?

My uncle (who is like 22 lol) plays intermural basketball in college even though in high school he was pretty good. He wasn't good enough to make the D1 team at his school and didn't want to spend that much time on sports. He wanted to focus on academics so by playing intermural b-ball, he gets to play for fun while having enough time for school. It's a win-win. Almost all colleges have intermural sports.
I took a tour of Stanford and a lot of the students play sports through clubs. I don't know about basketball specifically but I would be interested in doing martial arts in a club and just knowing how to protect myself in the rough streets of Palo Alto lol!
Read the title. Go to the school's web site, click on "Current Students" or something like that and find the clubs and intermural sports and do it. Just do it!
If you go to some big D1 school like Michigan or Duke, there is no way you are going to be able to play competitive sports unless you're really really good. Just go to the gym and avoid the freshman 15!
I'm in a similar position. The most important thing, as I'm sure you know, is education. Then comes sports. What I'm trying to do is find a school that best fits my educational needs, then if its down to 2, go with the one I could play at. If you indeed go to a larger school where there is clearly a lot of athletes and kids getting involved in the school, chances are there are a bunch of kids that are in a similar spot as you. If you can find a few people and maybe even start a club, or a lot of D1 schools have both and Intermural team and a Club team for players of all levels. Its not really something to worry aout because with big schools there is a better chance for opportunity in the active student body.
