I've seen lots of people talking about how to prepare for college interviews. I get really nervous and stutter but I don't want colleges to think I don't care. Are interviews really necessary to get into a good school?

Don’t worry; just be yourself and keep calm. The purpose of college interviews, more than anything else, is to “weed out” those candidates with obvious problems – like it or not. most colleges do not want students who are unnaturally social inept or extremely hyperactive, and such information might be obtained from an interview but not from an application. Also, colleges will sometimes use an interview as a way of making a final decision on an applicant whom they haven’t decided on yet – a knockout interview could make the evaluation of your interviewer positive enough to win you admission. (This is especially true when a student gets two interviews, a very rare occurrence indeed.) Because interviewers interview so many applicants and write so many evaluations, only a really stunning interview will have an effect on the admissions process.
