First year roomming/housing situations
Roommate or no roommate? I want a single but I don't want a disaster roommate. At the same time, I want to have friends. What's the best solution?

With my school, they offer a roommate request form so that you can suggest a roommate (your friend, family member, etc that goes to the college), or at least describe the attributes of a good roommate so that you get paired with someone you like. I thought similarly to you but decided that having a roommate is better than not having one.

I am choosing a single over a roommate. For me, a single is the best choice because it allows me to settle in my first year and not have to worry about possible rooming problems (e.g. dirty roommate, loud music, intruding when bringing friends over, etc.). This way, I can focus on academics and motivate myself to get out of the dorm, more often than not, to experience college life. Then, after my first year, if I make a good friend, then I can start talking about a roommate. This way, I will live someone who I've gotten to know and am comfortable with.
