Desktop vs. laptop?
So most people I know are getting a computer to bring with them to college, and I plan on doing the same. there seems to be a lot of debate over whether to get a desktop or a laptop, mainly because laptops are so expensive, but more mobile. I really would like to get a laptop, but i'm wondering what real benefits it has when you're at college? is mobility really that important?

In college, you will have tons of downtime. With a portable laptop, you can take advantage of the internet while you're in the stacks of the library piled under books, while you're at a local coffee shop, anywhere. Trust me, you'll be happier with a laptop.

Everybody that I know has a laptop. Unless you can't afford one or you want a better deal--spend less money for more computing power, then a laptop is your best bet. Laptops allow you to study anywhere on campus. This will be especially valuable whne you have to meet up with people for group projects.

Laptops are just too expensive. Save your money. Besides you're not going to need to move around all that much. Most students with laptops don't even bring them to class.

You can easily get a cheaper, more advanced desktop that will serve you better during your college career.

I got a great desktop where I spend a majority of my time computing. Then, I got a supplementary laptop with a lot less memory and computing power which I use to stay mobile. It's not the cheapest option, but if you're an engineer like me then you'll appreciate having a home computer and an anywhere-else computer.

Laptops crash a lot. You don't want to lose your important documents and sensitive information.

If you're planning to be an engineer, make sure you don't buy a laptop when the school you're going to is about to give you one.
