Colleges will look at your overall GPA. As far as I've heard, here's how they prioritize it:
1. Senior Year GPA (1st Semester or Trimester or whatever) - most important
2. Junior Year GPA
3. Freshman and Sophomore Year GPA
So your Junior Year GPA is quite important, but you still have time to improve - even if you show improvement for 2nd Semester, it will show that you're improving. If there was a family situation or personal situation that caused your GPA to tip, you can explain it in a letter that's an add-on to your college applications.

they usually look at your grades for your whole high school and if they see a spot where your grades are bad, they will most likely ask you about it in an interview.
your gpa for each year of school but you should improve more on your junior one because they won't be able to look at your senior one because you'll be already applying to colleges. but i guess you could always improve your senior year and when you meet with the college explain that you were slacking then became a non slacker or something.
To correct henry 2007, colleges look at your overall weighted and unweighted gpa and your first three years of high school are the most important. You will have already sent off your scores and applied by the end of junior year or the begginning of senoir year. lets say you r given a full scholarship; if you screw up in your senoir year it can be revoked. most people already know where they are attending by senior year. Make sure you get high test scores!
